Help & safety

How reporting works

Anyone can report a missing child, a found child, or a sighting through this site. Trained social workers and law-enforcement partners review every report. Only cases approved through a safeguarding review appear publicly, and only with generalized, non-identifying location details.

If you see a missing child

  • Do not confront or approach the person accompanying the child.
  • Note the time, location and any safe details you observe.
  • Report a sighting through this site or contact your local authorities immediately.

Privacy & child protection commitments

We never publish exact addresses, coordinates, reporter identities or unapproved photographs. Every public profile passes a safeguarding review before publication, and is withdrawn automatically the moment a child is located or a case is closed.

Frequently asked questions

Account

Public accounts (parents, guardians, and citizen reporters) can report, follow their own cases, and manage paired devices. Professional accounts, created by an organization administrator, grant case-management access scoped to the user's role and organization.

Professional accounts are created by an administrator within your organization. Once created, you receive an email with a link to set your password and sign in to the professional console.

Use the "Forgot password" link on the sign-in page to receive a password reset link by email. For security, the reset link expires after a limited time.

Yes. Signed-in users can update their name, phone number, job title (for professional accounts), and language preference from their account page.

Alerts

ChildTrace can send notifications by SMS and WhatsApp in addition to in-app alerts, so guardians and responders receive time-sensitive information such as safe-zone entry/exit events, SOS activations, or case updates.

Yes. Notification preferences are managed from your account settings, including which channels (SMS, WhatsApp, in-app) are used for different types of alerts, where available for your account type.

Matching

The platform compares reported details — descriptions, biometric or identifying markers where available, location, and timing — between missing-child and found/separated-child records to surface potential matches for professional review.

No. A potential match moves through match review and must reach verified-match status through trained professional assessment before it is treated as an identification. A match is never a reunification by itself.

Authorized case workers, supervisors, and investigators review potential matches through the case-management console. Public users and unauthenticated visitors never see match-review details.

Privacy

Only authorized professionals working the case can see private details. The public site shows generalized information only, after review.

Published profiles expire automatically after 30 days unless renewed, and are withdrawn immediately if the child is found.

ChildTrace never publishes exact addresses, precise coordinates, reporter identities, internal case notes, medical information, or photographs that have not been approved for public release.

Public locations are generalized to a region or locality name rather than exact coordinates, to protect the safety and privacy of the child and family involved.

Sensitive actions are recorded in a tamper-evident audit trail, access is restricted by role-based permissions on a deny-by-default basis, and data is only shown to accounts with a legitimate, verified need to see it.

Reporting

Anyone can report a missing child, a found or separated child, or a sighting through the public site. You do not need an account to submit a report, though contact details help responders follow up. Reports are triaged and unverified until reviewed by trained staff.

Your report is queued for review. A social worker or law-enforcement partner triages it, verifies the details where possible, and opens a case if warranted. You will not see internal case details, only publicly approved information.

Yes. You may submit a missing-child, found-child, or sighting report without identifying yourself. Providing contact details is optional but helps responders follow up if they need more information.

Include the child's approximate description, last known location, time observed, and any safe, relevant details. Do not include anyone else's private information you are not authorized to share.

Reports are reviewed by trained staff as soon as possible after submission. Urgent cases involving immediate danger should also be reported directly to local authorities, since ChildTrace review times cannot replace an emergency response.

Reunification

Reunification requires a formal, authorized child-protection assessment and verification process, even after a match is confirmed. This protects against fraudulent claims and ensures the child's safety.

ChildTrace supports the case-management and coordination workflow, but reunification decisions and physical handovers are carried out by authorized child-protection professionals and, where applicable, law enforcement.

Shop & donations

Yes, where donation options are enabled, contributions help fund wearable devices, alerting infrastructure, and platform operations supporting missing and vulnerable children.

Where the shop is enabled, guardians can purchase a wearable device online. Payment processing follows standard secure checkout practices and does not store full card details on ChildTrace servers.

Sightings

Do not confront or approach the person accompanying the child. Note the time, location, and any safe details you observe, then report the sighting through this site or contact your local authorities immediately.

A submitted sighting is linked to an existing case when it matches a known missing or found child, or logged as an unknown-case sighting if no match is found yet. Trained staff review and triage every sighting.

For safety and privacy reasons, ChildTrace does not routinely share investigation outcomes with the reporting party. If responders need more information, they may follow up using the contact details you provided.

Yes. You can report an unknown-case sighting even if the child does not appear in the public listings. Staff will review it against active and unpublished cases.

Wearables

A ChildTrace wearable (band, pendant, button, or tag) is a safety device a guardian can pair to a child's profile to support location tracking, safe-zone alerts, and an SOS button in an emergency.

From "My family" in your account, choose "Pair a device," then enter the device serial number and the pairing code printed on the device box (the last six characters of the setup code).

The device reports its battery level with each check-in. When battery is low, the platform can notify the guardian so the device can be recharged before it loses connectivity.

A guardian can draw a safe zone around a location, such as home or school, with an optional schedule. The platform sends an alert when the device enters or exits the zone outside expected times.

Pressing SOS opens an active emergency event tied to the device and child, notifies the guardian and relevant responders, and stays open until it is acknowledged and resolved by an authorized user.

Yes. A guardian or authorized administrator can suspend, revoke, or unpair a device. This immediately stops new location updates from that device from being tied to the child's profile.
